My Mediumship Journey

My grandmother lived to be 93 years old. One night, she ate dinner with her friends in the dining room of her managed care facility. Afterward, she carried the leftover cream of mushroom soup upstairs and put it in the refrigerator to eat later.

Then, she brushed her teeth, went to bed, and quietly slipped into Spirit. That was Grandma. Always doing things her way and without fanfare.

But that wasn't the end of the story.

"Grandma's Gone"

The next morning, I got a call from my dad.

"She's gone," he told me, his voice quivering. "Grandma left us last night. She didn't wake up, and her nurse found her this morning."

Oh," I said, simply, the tears starting to fall. Emotions and memories flooded my mind as I tried to make sense of the words Dad was telling me. The next few weeks were a blur of travel plans, arrangements, and a steady stream of family.

Grandma Says Good-Bye

Grandma and I had been close, and I knew she was in a better place. She’d lived a long, strong life. She’d seen a lot of change and overcome a lot of heartache and hardship. Sure as anything, she was giving Grandpa a piece of her mind, as she always did. Still, I knew I was going to miss her.

That night, I had a very vivid dream. Grandma had come to my house, and I was showing her around. She'd never seen my place, and she was enjoying the tour. "Very nice, very nice," she kept saying, slipping easily between English and Hungarian, her family tongue. She was smiling, and we were very much enjoying our visit. Then, we both knew it was time for her to leave. We both stood at the doorway, hugging, tears in our eyes.

"Good-bye, my sweet granddaughter. I love you. I'll see you soon," she said.

Then I woke up. This didn't feel like a dream. It felt so real, and tears were streaming down my face when I awoke. This wasn’t an ordinary dream; this was something else entirely. And it was just the beginning of my journey.

When Good-Bye Isn't the End

I puzzled over her final words, "Good-bye, see you soon."

Did it mean I would soon be joining her on the other side? Somehow, that didn't feel quite like her message. A few years later, my spiritual journey began to take a turn. I was no longer content with just seeking aimlessly; I felt there was more for me, but I just wasn't sure what it would look like. I set the intention to find a mentor and learn Mediumship. I live in a small town, so I wasn't confident that I would find someone who could help.

I'd always been sensitive to energy; as far back as childhood, I could remember seeing and feeling things I couldn't quite explain. I vividly remembered my "imaginary friend", even though I was only about four years old when he told me he would disappear for good.

Maybe he wasn't so imaginary after all.

Meeting My Mentor

One day, I walked into a local metaphysical shop and was introduced to Danielle. My eyes widened as I shook her hand and whispered, "I think I manifested you!" We both laughed. It was strange to say aloud, but I'd hoped to meet someone who could help me reach the next level, and Danielle was the perfect mentor.

I signed up for her classes right away. We started with simple psychic exercises, like reading the energy from a photograph and holding objects in our hands to get psychic impressions, a technique known as psychometry.

I loved the exercises and was surprised by how easily the information flowed. I still had much to learn, but those early days were magical.

Mediumship: Leveling Up

Then one day, Spirit guided me to the next level. Danielle's exercise was to find a link to someone in Spirit. I would get whisps, slight impressions, and brief sensations that someone on the other side was trying to connect. It was both frustrating and fascinating. The feeling was ephemeral, and it was difficult to grasp hold of anything substantive. It was as though the moment I looked straight at it, it disappeared, like trying to see a distant star in dark sky. It was all so weird. I couldn't shake the feeling I was imagining things, making it all up in my head.

"Trust," Danielle advised. "If you get something, say it. You'll be surprised at how accurate you are." I did as she said, and she was right. I was surprised by the information I received. I was still doubtful.

That's when Danielle's mom showed up. All I knew was that Danielle's mom was in Spirit. I didn't know anything more. Something had changed in a big way. I clearly saw her mom standing in the room with us, holding the back of Danielle's chair. She was smiling and patting Danielle's shoulder, telling me how proud she was of her daughter. Then she let me know that she'd be happy to help me get started with my Mediumship, too.

It all happened in a flash. The vision, the words, the feeling. Wow. I relayed it all to Danielle in a rush of words and emotion. I'd never seen Danielle's mom before, not even a photo, but I could describe her perfectly. Danielle smiled. She wasn't a bit surprised. "Yeah, that tracks! Mom is my biggest cheerleader and never misses an opportunity to help when she can."

That was the beginning of my journey, and I've had mentors and teachers on both sides who've helped me find and hold a link almost indefinitely. It's a beautiful feeling to help others connect with their loved ones on the other side. We laugh, cry, and hold space in our hearts for healing.

This is my Mediumship journey, and it continues to grow. I now know what Grandma meant when she said, "See you soon."

She's shown up for me many times as I've practiced with others in circles and classes. She's an integral part of my Spirit Team, helping me with mechanics and filling in the gaps when I need extra help.
